Tuna Saku Blocks

4 reviews

(Item #95) 7-12 firm Tuna Saku Blocks (7 x 10oz servings) that are perfect for sushi, sashimi, and tataki.

Sealand's tuna blocks are precision cut from the centre of the tuna loin. They are cut from wild caught tuna, and have a firm texture and mild yet meaty flavour. This premium Ahi (Yellowfin) saku is boneless and skinless, with the bloodline removed. Each piece of tuna has been Individually Quick Frozen (iQF) after catch to preserve taste. With our right-sized iQF tuna, you only have to thaw out what you need.

Best Ways to Cook

We recommend that all our fish products be thawed out of packaging for 24 hours in the refrigerator prior to cooking (unless otherwise stated). With sushi grade ahi tuna, you can simply slice and serve. Or, try the following cooking method tonight.

Pan Sear

How to Pan Sear Tuna

Heat a large frying pan over high heat. Add 1 tbsp of sesame oil to the pan. Pat dry the thawed tuna saku block and season with sea salt and pepper and sesame seeds. Place in the pan and sear for 1 minute per side. Slice and transfer to serving bowls.

How to Grill Tuna

Preheat grill to very high heat (around 600-650 degrees F). Pat the tuna steaks dry with a paper towel, drizzle with avocado or vegetable oil, and season on both sides with salt and pepper.

Place the seasoned tuna saku block on the grill, close the lid, and cook for 90 seconds. Rotate the fish 90 degrees and cook for an additional 90 seconds (this turn will give you those beautiful criss-cross grill marks on your fish). Turn the fish to the other side and repeat. Slice and transfer to serving bowls.

Cooking times and temperatures may vary based on the method of preparation and the thickness of the fish. Test for doneness with a meat thermometer.
